The green month of 2012

For the third year in the history of this blog, October kicks off with a reminder that this is the month of depression awareness. For the third year, the blog header has been updated accordingly (all in polish, of course), and for the third year, a post of green spam from the past year. Enjoy.

Swedish Raspberry

I made a franken! Yeah, it's not that unusual apparently, but here it is anyway. Lately my mind has come up blank when trying to figure out names for my frankens, and this was no exception. Though, right now I decided to temporarily call it Swedish Raspberry. Terrible name, weird photos below.

Jelly translucency.

Pink and just a sprinkling of golden glasfleck.

Green, reflective glitter! Deeper glitters appear black.

Yum.

I did three coats of this little polish, consisting of a large part H&M Pinktastic, a drizzle of OPI Let Me Entertain You, and an H&M glitter called Aqua Splash. Aqua Splash is reflective enough to appear prismatic, although I do believe the particles are flat.

Do you like it?

Happy May Day!

Today is International Workers' Day, or May Day, so what better than showing a franken I custom made for a fellow feminist? In Sweden, as well as internationally, the feminist and socialist movements walk side by side, or may in some cases even be the very same movement. As many workers have been marching the streets today, let's now celebrate with a festive glitter polish. And yes, nail polishes can make statements.

I believe I did three coats on the wheel - this is a vampy jelly polish with all sorts of glitter, and a tiny splash of golden shimmer. On white plastic, especially in sunlight, it appears brighter than it really is. The top bottle photo shows the vampy properties the best.

Just like in my old Angina franken, the base color is derived from China Glaze's fantastic vampy jelly Ravishing, Dahling. The glitters are from three different polishes: Color Club Rockstar, my dear Uninhibited black glitter from the LA Girl Glitter Addict line, and there's even a sprinkling of holographic hexagons, found in New York Summer Hollywood Night. The gold shimmer is only a few drops of a random H&M gold foil.

Unlike most of my recent frankens, this one does have a name. I won't disclose it though, since it's a sort of insider joke that could be perceived in a very wrong way by someone not familiar with it. The recipient of this bottle, Lisa, understood the name perfectly well, and promised to wear it for her upcoming trip to London. With Lisa in mind, this lacquer pretty much blended itself in no time. It has everything a modern feminist is in herself: a deep, classic red symbolizing an independent woman (Lisa will like this reference in particular), multi colored glitter to represent her open mind towards all sorts of cultures - ethnic, sexual and popular, the black glitter for seriousness on the political side, and a dash of gold and holographic glitter for the glitz and glamour we all need sometimes. - All of this could of course be said about the workers' movement as well!

Swedish expression of the day:
första maj May first
It's how we usually refer to May Day here.

Yet another ... Untitled franken

Do you remember my two untitled, dusty and dirty frankens? I told you there is a third one, and here it finally is. The question is, is it better, or is it actually worse? At least it's just as untitled as the previous two.

Three coats - this one turned out more sheer than the two previous. I was still aiming for a dirty pink color, and yes, I used a pink component, but adding a grey shimmer made it... I don't know, a taupe leaning purple?! At least in some lighting situations. But that may just be the grey shimmer confusing the eye.

What did I use? Just like before, it's my beloved frankening glitter Uninhibited, from the LA Girl Glitter Addict line. The shimmer portions (dark and silver) comes from Misa Grey Matters, and this is actually the larger bulk of the polish, while it has had just a few drops of pink - I believe I used the same creme mini from H&M as in the pink with black glitter franken. There may also be a few drops of white and/or black creme. I honestly don't remember anymore, and I always tweak my frankens without ever counting drops, and I certainly don't write them down!

This probably won't really be a problem - why would anyone want to imitate this polish? I'm torn over the resluts. It sure is different, but is it different in a good way, or bad? Undecided. I know I think the black glitters aren't covered enough because of the sheerness of the base.

What do you think about this effort?

Swedish word of the day:
blanda -verb mix
I obviously like doing it.

Dust and dirt

So, there's one thing that always works when I need to find my polishing mojo again: frankening. And the inspiration for the little set of polishes I've made on the theme in this post, came to me when LA Girl released their Glitter Addict line and I finally, finally, got a pure black glitter in clear base in the form of Uninhibited. I have already showed you a creation I made with it, and I realized early on that it would be one of the polishes I'd use the most for frankening purposes.

Well, I'm not typically a pastel girl, but provided I can fuck the pastel up, I'm ready for 'em. I was going to post them separately, but one set of photos was just so bad that I couldn't bare posting them on their own. But first, better photos, of Uninhibited mixed with a cheap and standard creme white from H&M:

Despite mixing the creme with the clear glitter base, only two coats were required here. And guess what? It doesn't have a name. I've been lousy at coming up with names lately.

And next, the pink I had to make, to be able to wear pink in a proper alizarine way.

Not good photos, sorry, but you probably get the overall idea. To get this pink even more dirty looking, I added some Misa Grey Matters to it, which gave the shimmer component. The larger part of the polish is another standard H&M mini, from an old Summer Nails mini set, called Neon Pink (but it's not really neon, just bright). I'm not really happy with this one, but still actually wore it for a few days. In its defense, it is a cooler pink than it appears in these photos. Sun can be a tricky bastard.

I have a third one that I'm going to show you eventually, I just haven't had time to wear it yet. And as soon as the sun shows its ugly face, my top priority will be swatching the OPI Spider-Man lacquers, but after that, maybe. And we'll see what you think. How do you like these two?
