OPI The Muppets - part I

To the best of my abilities and courtesy of the not that bad Swedish weather, here are swatches of the six first OPI The Muppets collection polishes.

Animal-istic. Two coats, no topcoat. Warm red with pink to gold, slight, duochrome shimmer.

Meep-Meep-Meep. Three coats, topcoat. Slightly jellyish fuchsia base with gold and pink to gold rather coarse flecks. Coarse enough to desperately need a good topcoat, which is why I slapped one on. Wouldn't allow me to grab decent macro shots, unfortunately, but hopefully you get the idea. I have been pondering the properties of the particles in this one, and I might be wrong, but I'm fairly certain there are these two types of flecks in it.

Wocka Wocka!. Two coats, no topcoat. Deeply pigmented medium red with pink to gold pearl shimmer. Doesn't really show any duochrome properties on the nail, but it glows a lot more in reality. Could perhaps have benefitted from a topcoat in these pictures. Hell to clean up and remove because of the very good pigmentation.

Pepe's Purple Passion. Two coats, topcoat. Burgundy red, rather pigmented base with the same shimmer flecks Meep-Meep-Meep has. Eats topcoat, because of the coarse particles - you can tell by the bits sticking out from the edges.

Designer, De Better!. Three coats, no topcoat. Silver and copper foil. Rather sheer, needs all three coats. The human eye in reality perceives this as a champagne color.

Warm & Fozzie. Three coats, no topcoat. Foil of three different particle types: gold, copper and the pink to gold duochrome one, in a very sheer, undefinable base. Definitely needs all three coats, and is still a tad sheer, sadly. Not the strong duochrome I expected, but some. The leader of the pack, in my opinion. So good I allowed it some additional shots, layered.

Here it is in one coat over a medium dark bronze-y, golden forest green:

And here in two coats over Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow Suede:

I think this one is neat, even though the overall color is one I wouldn't normally rush out to get.

Formulas range from good to a little thin and runny. Both Meep-Meep-Meep and Wocka Wocka! are pigmented enough to stain your cuticles a whole lot, so make sure to dab on some cuticle oil before removing. I felt like I had a harder time than usual to fit the Pro-Wide brush onto my nails, but it could have been excessive intake of morning coffee... I don't think the brush has been altered, so provided you've got a steady hand, you should encounter less problems than I did.

I assume you already figured, but Warm & Fozzie is definitely my favourite among these. It is special. Not that I'm the biggest collector of foils, and especially not in the gold and bronze range, but this one wins my heart by a landslide. I'm feeling like wearing it again, and that doesn't happen all the time, exactly. I'm rather confident that I will sooner or later be wearing Meep-Meep-Meep for a full manicure as well, and maybe I'll do a twinkling pedicure with Designer, De Better!. The other reds don't really cut it for me personally, but I'm looking forward to seeing for example Animal-istic on someone with a tan skin tone.

What I find a little interesting, is that it seems OPI reused the shimmer pigments found in some of the Touring America shades, only of different particle sizes. This pink to gold one, that could have been duochrome, or even multichrome, if that green shade I don't trust my eyes enough to verify really is there, actually is, had it only been allowed not to be drenched in base color pigmentation. Of course there is no way for me to know this, but if not the sma epigment, they sure are close in color and properties.

Overall, I think this part of the collection is relatively decent, with a few ups and downs (as to be expected to suit everyone's taste), and definitely a positive surprise, bearing the promotional images in mind. For a lover of reds this must be a good one, but if you're not one of them, maybe you won't feel the need for all that many of these.

Now I hope you'll excuse me while I curl up on the couch, atteding to my head cold. Any weirdities in this post, I blame entirely on my state. Glitter swatches in one form or another as soon as it's possible. Hang in there!

  4. Surprisingly I really like Wocka Wocka on your skintone. It looks so fresh and sexy. I planned to skip this one, but now I'm not so sure. Warm & Fozzie looks amazing, and so does Designer, De Better! But then, I do like foils. Much to my surprise, I also like Pepe's Purple Passion, I'm craving reds and wines& such lately. Meep-Meep-Meep is cute as well, I bet it's even better in person, I'm not happy to hear that they eat up topcoat though :/ Animalistic does nothing for me right now, but I liked the bottle shot. Anyway, these are much better than expected! My poor wallet! :)

  6. Some of these are really pretty but I have to save my money for the glittery half of the collection (which will hopefully be as awesome as the promo photos look). And I have to say, really fantastic, gorgeous swatches - amazing detail! <3 Thank you so much for posting these!

  14. I hope your head cold will leave you in peace soon...
Thanks for those swatches, as I said yesterday, i've been eagerly waiting for them!! Do you have any idea how Meep-Meep-Meep compares to last year's Burlesque The Show Must Go On?

  15. THANK YOU SO MUCH for swatching these! I've been dying to see swatches ... *blows a kiss on your cheek* :)))

Also thanks a lot for mentioning the staining! I wore OPI's "swimsuit - nailed it!" and spent over 30 minutes in my bathroom trying to remove all the blue color, it totally stained my fingernails, cuticles and the rest of my fingers around it. Took me ages and 2 days to get rid of (almost) it all.

Maybe I should always oil my cuticles and fingers before removing a polish .. but such bad staining hasn't happened to me, ever ...

So I'm quite glad you mentioned that, so I can be prepared :))

And thanks again for the swatches! *presents you with yummy tea and soup to make your cold go away*

  16. if you like warm&fozzy, then you should definitely take a look at color club nouveau vintage. it's a similar color, I think, and looks very pretty.

  21. 4/6 I'm considering. Doesn't really seem like a holiday collection though. :\ I kinda miss the old school '09 and '08 winter collections.
