Peri-wink!

I've been hesitating to post this for more than a week, perhaps two?, now, but let's get it done. I'm telling myself that maybe these photos aren't too far off in terms of color accuracy after all, and that despite this being an older shade, some might actually enjoy seeing it again (or for the first time). I've been putting ridiculous restraints on myself lately, setting my standards so high I can't reach up to them. I see so many fantastic photos of nail polish on the internetZ, that I feel mine are inadequate. However, due to some recent and unexpected praise, and hard mental work, I try not to be too hard on myself, so here it is: China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le, from the 2008 collection Operation Color.

When I got into nail polish fo' realz, this polish was hugely popular. I wasn't very interested though, as I had always been into the darker, edgier colors, and to me at that time, Secret Peri-wink-le seemed almost pastel. Fast forward a few years, and I suddenly felt the urge to acquire it. And when it arrived, I was in a blues period, and it seemed perfect. So in a matter of days (short time span for me with nail polish acquisitions) I slapped it on, eagerly. And yeah... Okay. This color was invented in 2008, but production should be a lot later. And this is way more sheer than I expect from a creme shade. I needed three rather generous coats. However, it was worth it. The color is great. The alizarine in the year 2012 loves this.

Are the photos accurate in color? On my MacBook monitor they are slightly less periwinkle and more pure blue than the actual polish.

Coincidently, I had a bunch of newly arrived image plates near me, and sorta got into some stamping frenzy. I couldn't help myself and stamped away on top of Secret Peri-wink-le. I used a so called fauxnad (counterfeit Konad) plate, no. m65. The pattern is made with a rather standard dark gunmetal or charcoal grey from H&M, called Nice N' Naughty.

I still suck at stamping, but I'm getting there! And I loved this. I wore this manicure with pride.

Oh, and I'm really sorry about all the silence here over the last few months. It's not you - it's me. I still love each and every one who takes the time to read this blog. <3

  6. I agree that your photos are always really beautiful! And I really love this colour — I actually got a mini set of this China Glaze collection as a gift back when it came out, before I'd really gotten into polish. So I've had this polish for ages, and it's still one of my favourites.

  8. Not looking pastel blue on my monitor. I am seeing the lavender in it - plus it's not got a chalky/white look to it like many soft blue pastels do. This is showing really nice saturation. I like this shade. I can wear this shade where I cannot wear a pastel blue usually because the white in it gives me red hand look (thinking shades like OPI's What's With the Catitude? that so many folks still want, is hard to find now as well but coveted by many). Curious how this looks next to the classic China Glaze Periwinkle that is part of their 'wall collection' available in the US in a beauty supply store called Sally's. I am thinking it's close to that shade.

  11. This is an oldie but a goodie. I love Secret Periwinkle and like you, a couple of years ago I wouldn't have even looked at it twice but now it's one of my favorite colors. Beautiful.

  13. Jättefina bilder. Sluta vara hård mot sig själv för det vi ser är fantastiskt bra och om det du gör inte duger kan vi lägga ner hela högen...
