Rainbow Connection. Multi-colored hexagonal glitter in three different sizes, in clear base.
Excuse Moi!. Multi-colored, smaller, hex glitter and silver micro glitter in rose pink base. This is the only swatch that was topcoated, because it really needed it.
Gone Gonzo!. Large silver and smaller blue hex glitter in clear base. The blue color is a tad deeper than in these photos, my camera waters these blues out for some reason.
Fresh Frog of Bel Air. Large silver and smaller green hex glitter in clear base.
Divine Swine. Large silver and smaller magenta hex glitter in clear base.
Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!. Here's a twist: I didn't notice until I edited these photos that I had mistaken on the color of one type of gitter in this one. The large silver hex glitters are there, and the small red ones, but the larger ones I thought to be red also, are actually pink. If you magnify the second photo I think it's fairly apparent. Another unconsistency here is that I did a third coat on my ring and pinky nails.
Why? I couldn't stand the look of this one on my bare nails. This truly is herpes in a bottle. On top of a red or black, maybe, but swatched like this ...terrible. I don't have particularily warm feelings towards Fresh Frog of Bel Air or Gone Gonzo! either, to be honest. Of course, these are meant to be topping glitters (I sincerely hope), but I find them to be rather flat and uninteresting. Glitters such as these I'd rather buy for ~$1 each.
Rainbow Connection of course isn't done based on some brand new idea. I'm a bit surprised that OPI jumped on the dupe bandwagon with it - though, to be fair, it's a good multi-colored hex glitter, and it still is cheaper than the original.
Excuse Moi! is the only one I think is a good shade, although not in my personal taste. It has an actual base color, and isn't as flat as the others. I do believe fans of pink glitters will like this one quite a bit.
OPI really seems to have finally abandoned that thick glitter formula they used to have, and some of these are even a bit runny; if you do the generous coats I did, you might end up with a little bit of cuticle pooling. The thinner glitter formula also means you will need a good, self-leveling topcoat to avoid bumpiness.
Overall, I personally think this is the less interesting half of the collection. I will surely find use for at least some of these, perhaps in the infamous jelly sandwich manicures many of us love these days, but I'm not longing to wear any particular shades here. It's interesting though, that OPI seems to be continuing doing half the holiday collection as glitters. However, I liked the Burlesque glitters better.
Swedish word of the day:
regnbåge -noun rainbow
The mix of rain and sun here right now calls for some.
OOOOO I want the Fresh Frog of Bel Air <3
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself I don't need these but I DO! I REALLY DO!
ReplyDeleteOh so I squealed very loudly!! These are gorgeous!! I am disappointed to read that they are not thick formulas! Getting Miss Piggy With It is not so cute by it lonesome! Thanks for the awesome swatches!
ReplyDeletexoxox
I need all of them. Urgently...very urgently.<3
ReplyDeleteWow they're amazing! I love the first one the most
ReplyDeleteI love rainbow connection and Excuse-moi (for top coat for sure) thanks for the swatch
ReplyDeleteI think after seeing many a densely packed glitter franken-polish, these are a shocker!
ReplyDeleteI really love layering and perhaps I will pick up a couple, though, I think I might pick up less than I thought.
I love your honest comments!!!
Your photos are great resources!!!
Thanks for the swatches!!
I love your candor. Thanks for the honest assessments
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post! I agreem the glitter are definitely meant to go "on top" of anotehr color :)
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA!!!! Herpes in a bottle! OMG that's too funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little bit disappointed, I was hoping they could be worn alone. But they probably look amazing when layered.
They all look great to me!!
ReplyDeleteRainbow Connection and Gone Gonzo - oh my!!! They would look so cool layered!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these swatches. It actually saved me some money, because now I only want the 'Excuse Moi!' :D
ReplyDeleteI wish you'd do them with base colour ... I hope you will! Because this is the half I have on my WL (not all of them, but a couple), the other half didn't really rock my world. I hope they'll rock on a good base!
ReplyDeleteI lol'd at herpes in a bottle :) Rainbow Connection is not as close to the "others" as I thought it would be... but still... not the most original concept.
ReplyDeleteI'm so disappointed at the glitters. On the promo pics they looked like they'd be gorgeous on the nails on their own like the glitters in the Burlesque collection. The other colors from this collection weren't that impressive either. Except maybe Warm & Fozzie and Designer, De Better. Still thinking if I should get the glitters. If they're only meant as a top coat then there are cheaper alternatives out there.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised. I was expecting them to be thicker. I wouldnt still be very much tempted to get all of them just because they are limited edition though. Not great news for my wallet.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!! The Burlesque glitters were waaaay better than these. But hex glitter seems to be the latest "fad" in the polish industry...Lots of companies here in Brazil are releasing them too.
ReplyDeleteRainbow connection is somewhat nice.Since it does not have red glitter like the Milani Gems/DL Happy Birthday, it does not remember me of salad. I guess I may want that one...lol
And even thought I am not completely head over heels about Gettin' Miss Piggy With it. I used to love Miss Piggy so much as a child that I'll probably get that one too.
Thanks for the swatches hun!
Weeeell, my banker thanks you on that one, because after seeing them in real, I'm so disappointed that I know I'll pass them!! I love when glitter can be worn alone, and clearly it's not the case with those. So after thinking I would buy the entire collection, I'm now looking at a max of 4...
ReplyDeleteGetting glitter crazy! :D
ReplyDeleteGettin' Miss Piggy With It! looks like it has both silver AND pink large hex glitters in it, while Divine Swine, Fresh Frog of Belair and Gone Gonzo seem to only have silver. Am I missing the colored hexs in the others?
ReplyDeleteI kind of like Gettin Miss Piggy With It as it is... is that weird? :P I wish it didn't have to be layered but I like the red and pink together. I honestly doubt I'd buy any of these, they just aren't that interesting. Also, I can buy pretty decent quality glitters along the lines of Excuse Moi in the 100 yen stores here so I couldn't see me paying OPI prices plus shipping for these.
ReplyDeleteWow. I am so disappointed in these. I am a glitter lover so I was super excited for these, but after these swatches I'm passing. They aren't complex enough. I wish they would have been more thoughtful when choosing the glitters for the blends. I expected more from the creators of the Burlesque glitters/Absolutely Alice/Mad as a Hatter. I'm sure these will be very appealing looking in the bottle and that they will sell well based on that appeal. It's just such a shame because these glitters could have been really great. Thank you so much for saving me painful disappointment! And I agree - Gettin' Miss Piggy With It! looks EXACTLY like herpes in a bottle! Yuk. :P
ReplyDeleteThese looked so awesome, but I'm with you...I wouldn't pay 8 bucks for these. I prefer the full coverage glitters. Gettin' Miss Piggy With It (really?) and Divine Swine are the only ones I like. Maybe when I see them layered I'll change my mind.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Burlesque glitters take first place, though these aren't all that bad.
ReplyDeleteI think I only want: Gone Gonzo, Fresh Frog of Bel Air, Divine Swine, and Gettin' Miss Piggy With it.
Thanks a bunch for sharing these :)
great pics thank you! what would you suggest as a good self-leveling top coat? I haven't tried top coats before and don't know where to start..
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: For me personally, Nubar Diamont is the best self-leveling topcoat. It's thick but doesn't cause shrinkage.
ReplyDeleteWomens are so creative! I don't know how can they can create designs like this. Every women is an artist definitely.
ReplyDeleteI want the glitters sooooo badly! They are such gorgeous colours.
ReplyDeleteHope your trip was great!
