OPI Germany - a quick look

The other day I went to one of those nice press events that the Swedish distributor of OPI holds every now and then to present the new collections. This time we got a peek at the fall Germany collection, and a generous box with samples of it. Here's a quick look at it - I hope to be able to swatch these in full when I get some more time and sun!

Berlin There Done That (taupe creme), Danke-Shiny Red (red shimmer), Deutche You Want Me Baby (rusty orange-red shimmer), Don't Pretzel My Buttons (nude creme).

Don't Talk Bach To Me (light pea green yellow with silver shimmer), German-icure by OPI (red-brown shimmer), Every Month is Oktoberfest (red shimmer in dark blurple base), My Very First Knockwurst (pink leaning nude creme).

Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! (blackened, muted green), Schnapps Out of It! (dusty orange with silver shimmer), Suzi & The 7 Düsseldorfs (medium purple shimmer), Unfor-Greta-bly Blue (blue shimmer in teal green base).

I have four comments:
1. The colors are very fall appropriate
2. The names are more ridiculous than ever
3. Bad porn seems to have been influential at the name creation party
4. Only one red!

Yes, very fall. But also... Rather boring. Three very neutral cremes. Standard red, purple and blue shimmers, not very inventive. The shimmer in most of these are of the finer variety that can be prone to brush strokes if you're not careful enough, although it's not that bad. However, I'm not a fan of the silver shimmer found in Don't Talk Bach to Me and Schnapps Out of It, and the shade of the latter is not that exciting at all. Actually, OPI describes it as a mauve, but I can't figure out why. Don't Talk Bach to Me could have been good, but the shimmer ruins this to a certain extent. At least I'm drawn to the name, since Bach is my favourite classical composer.

Upon first sight I couldn't find one really appealing color, but as I examined them more closely, I found one that actually got me slightly excited. More on that soon.

Formula seems to be of standard to OPI, which is good, and pigmentation is better than it's been for a while, I think. Most of these are good in two coats, and anyone who reads this blog more frequently knows I usually do three.

Here's my favourite:

German-icure By OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest. Two coats. At first coat, it's more a dark purple with red shimmer, at second it transforms in a red with a dark purple base - if you follow me on this. The shimmer gets more pronounced as you add coats. The base is dark enough to not show as purple, but it's still there, and when the sun hits it just right, it's awesome. I think purple lovers will want this one.

Every Month is Oktoberfest German-icure By OPI has the same shimmer, but in a brownish base. But this one... Nice. But original? OPI has previously released for example Black Cherry Chutney, which gives a similar impression, even though it may be different on a particle level. That aside, this shade really is nice.

As far as the rest goes, well, what do you think of these? Do you find anything exciting? Do you, unlike me, feel that these scream Germany? (Because I don't.)

The names of German-icure by OPI and Every Month is Oktoberfest were initially mixed up in this post! This was due to mislabeled bottles, something that happened to the entire batch of bottles that went out to Swedish bloggers and journalists before the release. I'm sorry about the confusion, the mislabeled photos above, and hope you'll still like both.

Swedish name of the day:
Tyskland Germany
We have a slightly different take on the name.

  1. Hah I love these names, Deutche Want Me Baby, seriously!?

German-icure By OPI looks só much like The Answer Is Love from ANNY, maybe they're dupes? =O

    1. I don't have any ANNY polishes, so unfortunately I can't verify that. :)

  3. There are 4 I really like.
But these OPI themes are just daft. And sometimes offensive. I'm talking about Herring Problem. Hmm.

  4. I am very excited for this collection. As a whole it IS a little underwhelming but upon closer inspection there are some cute gems, depending on personal taste. I love nudes and taupes so you can assume which ones I'm excited for. PS: I love your nail shape.

  6. Actually I don't find these colors very "Deutschland". And they are boring, I don't feel like needing any of them, as I already own Black Cherry Chutney.
Maybe the most original shade is Schnapps Out of It (but it's fugly)!

  7. Ahhh...I can't say I'm too excited about this collection either. I wish they did a better color for Don't Talk Bach to Me! I love Bach, but I don't like that color or the shimmer. :/ Hopefully OPI's saving the good stuff for the holidays!

  8. not at all Germanic!!! I do like the Oktoberfest and Germanicure ones though, the shimmer is pretty!!! I think I might be able to get on bpard with the pea green shimmer but the rest are such a snooze. And such boring finishes!!

I like that the Scandinavians have a completely different name for Deutschland. It keeps things interesting!

  9. I like "My Very First Knockwurst" and "Schnapps Out Of It!" but nothing to get excited about, although I'm from Germany ;)

  13. Jag kanske har dålig humor men jag älskar namnen haha!

  14. Jag har nog också dålig humor för jag tycker namnen är så töntiga att dom blir skitroliga :)

    German-icure är über vacker.

  17. German-icure is the only one that sparks my interest... otherwise, pretty boring. And just when I think those OPI names can't get any dumber, there come "Deutche You Want Me Baby" and "My Very First Knockwurst". Can't wait to see Panderbear's posts about some of these :D.

  21. Your favorite is my favorite, but I do have to say that I am not to excited about it either. Maybe once I see them on actual nails I will be more excited about them. I am however jealouse that you got a pretty good advance on these! :-)

Det blir typ "Suzi loves ABBA", "Borg-aining for Sun" och "The OPI Sin". :P

  23. I love your 4 comments!!
I agree, nothing über special about this collection. And I really don't see any link with Germany, aside from the silly names. Such a shame about the Bach one, I was so looking forward to getting it, hoping it was a flat crème. Anyways, I'm sure I'll end up checking them out and giving at least one of them it's chance!
    Thanks for your honesty :)

  24. I want Bach! I'm surprised they didn't use something like 'Baby got Bach' ;D

  25. Awesome! I can save me some money now! *beams*

  26. Yawn. I feel terribly judgemental, but this past spring collection didn't do it for me, and this is a snoozefest. I feel like I have seen all of these before.

  27. Wow! German-icure is definitely my fave here too!

  28. Germanicure, Oktoberfest och Nein väckte mitt intresse, men mest av allt är jag glad att jag kan pusta ut lite över att jag inte behöver lägga ut så mycket pengar på den här kollektionen heller.

  29. Great colors! How do you get such a crisp, perfect line around your cuticle? Your polish is perfect! Do you use a certain clean-up brush around the edges?

  30. I have only two colours but i love them
