This is what happened to me four years and some days ago:
Miranda. The sun and the star in my life. She came to me in the morning, on the 10th of June 2006.
She is (yet) my only child, and such a beautiful one. Even though I'm highly partial, I feel confident that others admire her too.
After all, that is what Miranda means. The Admirable.
The thing is, the day I had her, was my birthday. Yes, I gave birth on my birthday. So now, me and my daughter share a birthday. It is awesome. In more ways than one.
Not only do I have a very special reason to celebrate my birthday these days, I also have a great excuse not to be in focus.
That's right. How many of you knew my birthday was the other day? Not many. You see, I never really liked celebrating it. I always thought of it as pointless, just like new years eve. Nothing really changes from the day before to the day after. I'm not one year older, I'm only one day older.
But now Miranda owns this day. And that makes it so much better. She loves getting presents. She loves the attention. She loves parties. She loves running around. She loves dressing up. (And she kinda likes nailpolish too.)
I happily handed her my own birthday. It was my gift to her.
Since she was born, I had a new day to myself anyway. Mother's day. She got my birthday, I switched days.
When the ever so lovely Monica of wixology announced she was frankening a dupe of Lippmann Collection's Happy Birthday, I asked for one. Like so many of you, I have a love/hate relationship with glitter, so I could not help being completely drawn to this over-the-top polish, yet I feared getting it - not only was it terribly expensive, it would also be hellish to take off.
But when Monica frankendupes something, I cannot resist. Yes, she's that good. Right away when I got it in the mail some months ago, I decided to save it for mine and Miranda's birthday.
I cheated. Since I was working during the week, I saved it until Saturday, when we were having a tiny party with the family.
Of course cheating meant the sun cheated me. No can have.
One coat of Very Merry Un-Birthday, over two coats of Color Club What a Drag.
And my birthday gift?
Every birthday.
